Bill was recruited by UF Coach Doug Dickey while playing football at Buchholz High School in Gainesville, FL. In 1979, he signed a scholarship under Coach Charley Pell and his first year as a Gator was the infamous 0-10-1 season.
While at UF, Bill was hampered by numerous knee injuries and surgeries which limited his playing time. However, with determination and perseverance, he remained on scholarship for four years and lettered for the Gators in 1982 where he was also awarded the Jimmie Sikes Scholarship Award presented “To the football student-athlete whose generosity and pride are continually expressed through his service to others. “

Coach Charley Pell wrote a letter of recommendation for Bill’s application to UF’s College of Law in 1989 which is attached for your review. Bill and Coach Pell remained close until Pell’s death in 2001.
